Enjoy the Frequency

KS4YX

I hold the call sign KS4YX. My first call sign was KD4HDW. I have been licensed since 1991. My Elmer for my license was, and still is, KR4GZ.

I am a member of the Keowee-Toxaway Amateur Radio Club, which is based in Seneca, SC. The club call sign is K4WD.  The K-T ARC is extremely active during Field Day, which is held in June. It is an ARRL affiliated club. I enjoy the social interaction and helping new "hams" learn how to be excellent operators. There are many modes to explore: APRS, SSTV, Satellite Operation and of course SSB. I admire anyone who can do high speed CW.

My wife, Patricia has her license and is KF4EGT. She is occasionally active on 2 meters.

I have my DXCC Award; WAS-CW, WAS-Voice, and WAS-RTTY. I have also received several ARRL certificates for contest operation. I thoroughly enjoy 10 meter activity and frequently check-in to the SC-SSB net, which meets nightly on 3.915 MHz at 1900 UTC.

Highlights of My Ham Experience

  • Amateur Radio Space Shuttle Contact
    West-Oak High School, Westminster, SC
  • On July 14th, 1995, several of my students were fortunate enough to have a scheduled contact, via amateur radio, with space shuttle astronaut, Commander Robert Cabana on STS-65.
  • International Space Station APRS Contact
    Packet Message
In 1997, I was able to upload a packet message of CQ and received a nice reply from an operator in Ohio. (More details when I find the QSL card)
  • Amateur Satellite QSO
    Ohio Contact
One my my most challenging contacts came through a split frequency contact with a ham via a RS213 satellite transmission. The window of opportunity was short, but I was able to make the contact and receive the QSL card.
